A published Co Author, her academic work include the implications of lifestyle issues on healthy living, and issues related to physical education and track and field. More importantly, she has published an article on the challenges of teaching physical education in Jamaica. Vilma has served on the executive of the JAAA through many administrations dating back to the 1980’s and has accompanied several National Teams in a management capacity.

Ms. Vilma Charlton is a retired Lecturer from the University of the West Indies, Institute of Education. She holds a Master of Arts in Education from Pepperdine University and a B.Sc. in Physical Education. During this period, she was listed in Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities, USA.
She serves as an International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) Instructor and as an official in a wide range of various national track and field events. Vilma has had a career as an accomplished athlete with over a decade of active competition at the national, regional and international level, including representing Jamaica in 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics. She is an inductee in the Hall of Fame at Pepperdine University in 2017.
