Two more medals for Jamaica!

Jamaica women’s sprint relay team delivered a fine victory at the IAAF World Championships on Saturday. The team of Natalliah Whyte, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Joneille Smith and Shericka Jackson led from gun to tape in a fast 41.44.

Medals Day9Great running and excellent changes saw quarter miler Jackson receive the baton two metres ahead of Great Britain. She then ran a good anchor, pulling away for the facile win. Great Britain were second with 41.85 and the United States third in 42.10.

The women continued their good showing in these championships when Shanieka Ricketts won silver in the triple jump with an effort of 14.92m. Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela won with 15.37m while former champion Caterine Ibarguen was third with 14.73m. Jamaica’s second competitor in the final, Kimberley Williams was fourth with a PB of 14.64m.

Jamaica now has nine medals, three gold, four silver and two bronze.
